Agri-tech event set to host thousands of farmers, showcase new technologies

Quite a number of farmers have reportedly confirmed participation for this year’s AgriTech Expo Zambia, an annual event servicing the needs of the agri-value chain in the country and its neighbouring countries.

The expo billed for Chisamba caters to large scale commercial farmers as well as emerging and small-scale farmers.

Countries such as German, United Kingdom, China, Czech Republic, South Africa, Israel, Jordan and Uganda are said to have lined up for the expo.

The theme for this year is: “Stay Ahead of the Industry.”

Syngenta Zambia said the event would bring significant value to the agri-business sector in the country by providing opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, and business interactions.

Company Managing Director, Given Mudenda, said the company was, therefore, geared to showcase, exhibit and demonstrate the latest agricultural technologies products, and services at the event.

“Allow me to take this opportunity to applaud all the AgriTech 2023 participants for their keen and efforts in this joint mission to boost the local farming sector and to empower farmers to improve their yield and promote sustainable practices,” Mudenda said.

At the same function, Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (GART) Executive Director, Martin Muyunda, said the institution’s interest in the event was to ensure farmers had access to the latest trends in the industry to improve their productivity.

Muyunda said some of challenges faced by the sector was that a lot of research had been done but were just shelved in drawers and did not reach the intended people, the farmers.

“With the expo farmers have an opportunity to look at various latest technologies. All key players in the sector should come to interact with service providers,” Muyunda said.
