Chitimukulu elated at Kasama Airport upgrade, as preparations for traditional ceremony draws near

Kasama and Mungwi districts of Northern province will be  hive of activities as preparation for the Ukusefya Pang’wena traditional ceremony of the Bemba draws near.

Paramount chief Chitimukulu is elated with the works on the upgrade of the Kasama Airport as he banks on it to boost domestic tourism as people prepare to experience the traditional ceremony, which depicts how the inhabitants of the province trekked from the Luba-Lunda ancient kingdom.

The Zambian government is currently doing the upgrade of Kasama Airport at a cost of K211 million.

According to the schedule, works are expected to be completed in July this year.

Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, who prefers to be called Mwinelubemba, inspected the upgrade of works at Kasama Airport on Thursday ahead of the ukusefya pa ngwena traditional ceremony of the Bemba speaking people, which is held annually in Mungwi Districts.

“During the tour of the Airport, the MwineLubemba was impressed with the works on the runway which is being upgraded from 1.6 kilometers to 3.7 kilometres to enable bigger planes to land,” notes the social media handle for Kasama Public Relations units.

Senior Chief Mwamba and Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Mpundu, and other senior government officials accompanied the traditional leader.
