Patriotic Front (PF) vice president,Given Lubinda, says Zambians must use the Democracy Summit to reject the obnoxious proposal for any aid from the west to be tied to the promotion of anti-Christian values and principles.

Lubinda said President Hakainde Hichilema must tell the conveners of the Democratic Summit that Zambia is a Christian nation and will not promote any values which are against the values and principles of a Christian nation.

He said the high poverty levels at household level must not lead to Zambians losing their values and principles as enshrined in the constitution that Zambia is a Christian nation.

“We have expressed concern that Zambia has failed on delivering on Democracy. Holding Elections is not full Democracy in itself. This government is undermining democratic institutions as demonstrated by his action to transfer oversight institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Commission as Gazetted Notice 1123,” Lubinda said.

Addressing Journalists at a media briefing in Lusaka on Wednesday, Lubinda said Zambia must also consider to review its relations with the American government if it continues to tie its aid to Human rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) people.

“Zambia may have to review its relationship with the USA as the country should not abandon its norms, national values, religious and cultural standing to please the Americans,” he said.

Zambia will co-host the Democratic Summit on March 29 to 30, 2023, with the United States of America, Costa Rica, the Netherlands and the Republic of Korea.

And Lubinda has warned that the PF will report President Hichilema to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as a non-friendly state actor if he fails to uphold the decisions which are made by the regional body with regards to the Russian/Ukraine war.

“Further the SADC Extraordinary Troika summit held in Namibia on January 31, 2023 adopted the draft African Union Declaration against the USA ‘Countering Malign Russian Activities in Africa Act’ and urged Member States to communicate SADC’s position, and reaffirmed the SADC policy stance of non-Alignment on conflicts outside the continent,” he said.

Lubinda said as the PF, it has adopted the position of SADC and reject this law that is prescribing the bilateral relations with Russia and further the stance taken by the USA Foreign Policy on Africa to wrestle it from China is hostile policy.

He has claimed that the Head of State has abandoned the non-alignment movement policy which Zambia has been upholding for years and sided with the west over the War.

“As demonstrated above, both Zambia and SADC have always practiced a non-aligned policy that worked with both the West and the East. And the Zambian government should not allow itself to abandon this policy that has served the country well in the past,” Lubinda said.
