Drug enforcement agency arrests 4 persons for being in possession of counterfeit currencies

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on the Copperbelt Province has arrested four people for being in possession of counterfeit notes contrary to the laws of Zambia.

DEC Public Relations Officer, Hussein Khan, said the Commission has jointly arrested and charged Joseph Mpundu, aged 63 of Mufulira, John Lumbwe, aged 30 of Kasama, Elisha Londwe, aged 32 of Ndola and Mathews Sandwe, aged 45 of Chiengi.

Khan said this in a statement issued to Zambia Monitor on Saturday in Lusaka.

He said the four have been arrested for being in Possession of Counterfeit Notes contrary to section 358 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

“The suspects were apprehended in an operation conducted at a Mall in Kitwe and a search of the Toyota Corolla they were in, led to the discovery of the counterfeit notes namely US$12, 700 and K89, 500,” Khan said.

He said the counterfeit notes and the vehicle have been seized.

“The four are detained in lawful custody and will appear in court soon,” Khan said.
