Government has closed Kapiri Girls Technical Secondary School in Kapiri Mposhi District of Central Province following another report of a third fire at the same school since Sunday May 14, 2022.

Announcing the move on Thursday in Kapiri Mposhi, Education Minister, Douglas Syakalima, said the closure is necessary to ensure that both the parents and their children are relieved of the stress the infernos have caused.

Syakalima has since sent a strong warning to anyone who will be found to be behind the fires, that the law will catch up with them soon.

He has assured the parents and school management that police are actively investigating the matter and perpetrators will soon be brought to book.

“I was just addressing pupils and teachers at Nakoba School and I just received disturbing news that an inferno which happened three to four days ago, now am told yesterday there was another inferno and we had already indicated that we will take the police to conduct investigations,” Syakalima.

He said the school management and the Ministry can not still keep the pupils whilst investigations into the causes of the inferno at the school.
