Govt wants to see growth of labour market through businesses, investments —Hichilema

President Hakainde Hichilema has called on beneficiaries of the 20 percent partial withdraw from the National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA) to invest their benefits in projects, which will yield positive returns for the future.

Officiating at this year’s International Labour Day Celebrations in Lusaka, Hichilema said the decision was well thought out by government to help beneficiaries secure their future and that of their children.

The Head of State has however called for sensitization of the beneficiaries on how best to invest their benefits.

Hichilema has noted the need to identify areas that maybe giving people a problem during the application and address them especially that government is not only interested in creating jobs but also enhancing the existing ones.

“Government wants to see growth of the Labour market by growing businesses through investments and by maximizing on the existing resources,” he said.

Hichilema also stated that the wastage of public resources is a hindrance to economic growth, which in turn affects job creation.

International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Officer, Peneyambeko Munkawa, has urged government to focus on inequality, poverty alleviation and social protection by providing quality jobs.

“We must review laws and regulations affecting the world of work, so that they are relevant, up to date, able to protect workers and support sustainable businesses.  

“To make all this happen, we need to recommit to international cooperation and solidarity,” Munkawa said.

Meanwhile, Zambia Federation of Employers President, Myra Ngoma, has called on government to put up deliberate policies that will allow for the creation of needed number of jobs in the country of jobs in the country.
