Machine chops Kitwe man into pieces in sawmill accident

A man in his early 30s has reportedly died after he fell on a sawmill machine, which chopped him into pieces.

Police say the incident happened on Friday around 17:00 hours at a named sawmilling workshop in Kitwe.

Copperbelt Police Chief, Peacewell Mweemba, in a statement on Saturday stated that Anthony Mbelebesha 32 slipped and fell on the sawmill machine which reportedly cut him into two pieces.

“The deceased reported for work in the morning and in the afternoon he took a break to have his lunch and resumed work 16:30 hours and while he was working he fell on the machine which was running,” Mweemba said.

A team of police officers rushed to the scene after receiving the report and the body was picked and taken to Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH) mortuary.
