Mandevu lawmaker arrested, PF describes action as ‘silly, worrisome’

Police in Lusaka have arrested Mandevu Member of Parliament, Christopher Shakafuswa, for allegedly inciting violence during the recent raid of former president Edgar Lungu’s residence in Ibex Hill Area.

Brief facts of the matter are that on May 3, 2023 in Ibex Hill of Lusaka, the accused was heard issuing a statement inciting unruly PF Party Cadres instructing them to start throwing stones at the police officers who were on duty whilst executing a search warrant.

Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson for Information and Publicity Raphael Nakacinda confirmed the arrest of Mr. Shakafuswa to Zambia Monitor on Thursday in Lusaka.

Nakacinda said Mr. Shakafuswa who is also PF Lusaka Province Chairperson is currently detained at Lusaka Central Police.

The PF Spokesperson has described the arrest of Mr. Shakafuswa for inciting violence as silly and scheme aimed at silencing the top leadership of the Patriotic Front.

“The continued harassment of the PF top leadership by the ruling UPND through the use of the Police is worrisome and must be stopped forth with,” Nakacinda said.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Police in Lusaka have detained Mr. Shakafuswa awaiting to be formally charged.
