Non-Governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says it is concerned  about escalating cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the country.

The gender equality advocacy group wants Zambians to unite and end GBV in all its forms.

“Like what we stated before, GBV is a serious human and women’s rights violation. The women’s movement on Thursday March 2, 2023 launched the campaign against the increasing cases of GBV in Zambia,” NGOCC Board Chairperson Grace Sinkamba  said.

Sinkamba said in a statement  on Thursday that  the launch marked the start of a campaign that would  be actively sustained to December 2023 during which various sensitisation and advocacy activities would be conducted.

She  said  the women’s movement together with other stakeholders is standing in unison to say no to gender based violence with a rallying theme of “enough is enough! Stop gender based violence now!” .

Sinkamba said  this is guided by national values and principles as provided under 8 and 9 of act 2 of the Zambian constitution, the women’s movement launched the nation-wide campaign against GBV in view of the moral decay in  society as evidenced by the increased cases of gender-based violence.

“Therefore, we would like to appeal to the government and citizens at large, not to be swayed by any other agenda that has potential to water down the campaign against this heinous crime in the form of GBV that continues to destroy our families,” she said.
