Opposition leader, Mumdubile, blames police leadership, poor training for conduct of operatives

Leader of the opposition in Parliament, Brian Mundubile, says Zambia Police Service top commander needs to undergo training to respect presidential pronouncements.

Mundubile said those that issue instructions to subordinates are the ones that need training because majority are Senior Police Officers recruited when it was a Police Force and may not fully appreciate that it is now a Police Service.

The Mporokoso Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament said this in a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday.

He said the top command is disrespecting President Hakainde Hichilema who on several occasions said that suspects arrested should be released on police bond the same day.

“Any form of training is welcome because it is meant to improve the efficiency in the operations of organizations including the police service,” Mundubile said.

He said the announcement that junior officers that were trained under the PF Administration must be retrained or fired because they are perceived to be PF cadres is a way of victimising junior officers that get instructions and orders from the top command.

“If you look at the operations of the police today, you will think that if there is any training to be done, they must start with the top command,” Mundubile said.

He said the training must start with top command as a training of trainers for the top command to give appropriate instructions to subordinates who they feel are not doing the right job at the moment.

Mundubile said, the top commander has made sure that some suspects stay in detention for nearly two weeks, despite President Hichilema’s advise in accordance with the law.
