Opposition Patriotic Front accuses ruling UPND of plotting to manipulate current and future elections

Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) claims it has uncovered a plot by the United Party for National Development (UPND) to manipulate results of by-elections and create a perception that the former ruling party is losing grip.

This is according to the PF Copperbelt Media Director, Munalula Moola in an interview on Thursday.

Moola alleged that the plot by the UPND included that the PF should not come second in any by-election but should be coming out number three, four or five so that Zambians start thinking that it had lost grip and was no longer a threat to the ruling party.

He claimed that the plot was hatched a day before the Chitimukulu local government by-election in Chililabombwe and was availed to the PF by the informers within the UPND.

Moola said the plot also included violence during the by-elections and ensuring that all poling agents from all opposition political parties participating in the by-elections were chased from the polling station without fail.

“The UPND had a meeting before the elections where they had been told what to do when there is an election and some of the things they were instructed were that PF should not come second in any elections. If there is more than two political parties contesting in an election, PF should come the last.

“Make sure that votes for PF has to be reduced by 100 percent and added to UPND, for example, if PF has 230 votes, that means 200 votes has to be taken out and given to UPND plus the actual votes for UPND that means UPND will be on top and then the remaining 30 is for PF,” he claimed.

This, he said, simply meant that by doing this PF would be going down to the last position.

“The mission is to make sure that the Zambian people start losing confidence in PF as a party,” Moola said.
