Police nab 35-year-old man for alleged defilement of minor

Police have arrested a 35-year old man of Chingola for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl whom he threatened to beat if she reported the ordeal to anyone.

Copperbelt Commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the  incident
happened between Tuesday 19:00 and Wednesday 04:00 hours at a named
primary school in Zambia’s  mining district.

The victim’s elder sister, 20, reported that her young sister was
allegedly defiled by the suspect on her way back after she failed to
meet up with a friend she went to see at  Luano  market.

On  her way back, the victim  met the suspect who grabbed her and told
her to have sex with him.

“A 34-year-old man in Chingola has been arrested for allegedly
defiling a 13-year-old girl,” Mweemba said in a statement on Monday.

He said the victim refused but was later dragged to the named school
where the suspect had carnal knowledge of her as he  threatened to
beat her if she shouted or told anyone about the ordeal.

Mweemba said the suspect together with the victim stayed at the scene
until the following day when he released her to go home.

He said the victim did not report to anyone until on Saturday when the
suspect himself confronted the elder sister to whom he informed what
transpired.

Mweemba said it was at that time that the sister of the victim
asked her if the ordeal was true and she agreed.

With   the help of the members of public, the victim was apprehended
on Sunday around 05:00 hours  and taken to the police where he was
detained for defilement,he said.
