President Hichilema warns against corruption, attempt to distort drug supply chain

President Hakainde Hichilema has warned State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) that will be involved in corruption, pilfering and deliberate distortion in the medical supply chain that the law shall deal with them accordingly.

“We implored the departments to ensure that corruption, pilfering and deliberate distortion in the medical supply chain are firmly addressed and that anyone found wanting should be dealt with in accordance with relevant laws,” President Hichilema said.

The move is aimed at addressing the escalating drug situation in the country.

At State House in Lusaka on Wednesday, President Hichilema held a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health, Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA), Zambia Medicine Regulatory Authority,(ZAMRA)and Zambia Medicine and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA), to evaluate delivery processes and related impediments in the timely distribution of medical supplies to the health sector in the nation.

In his official social media platform, he directed that all associated departments coordinate and work together to expedite the delivery of drugs throughout the country and that no further excuse would be tolerated.
