Redeployment of administrators, infrastructure upgrade in view, as govt plans changes in STEM education

Government has announced plans to make strategic changes in the management and administration of STEM in secondary and primary schools across the country.

This will include redeployment of school administrators and infrastructure upgrade.

Minister of Education, Douglas Syakalima, said the planned changes have been necessitated by the need to enhance teacher and learner performance and promote excellence in line with the agenda of delivering quality education.

Syakalima indicated that government wants to restore technical schools like David Kaunda National Stem, Hillcrest National Stem, and Chizongwe Technical Secondary Schools’ back to their glory days when competitiveness defined them, while non-technical schools churned out equally high performing students.

He said this will mean that in some instances there will be redeployment of school administrators.

“In achieving these goals, government is aware of its obligations to support schools’ infrastructure enhancement through the provision of desks, lab equipment and general improvement of school surroundings,” Syakalima said.

He said government considers education as a pillar of human capital and is determined to restore damaged reputation of public schools.

Syakalima added that improved standards will promote the education-industrial linkages that will foster innovative and entrepreneurship minds in the pupils.

“There is need for all stake-holders who include traditional leadership, sector unions, members of parliament among others to take keen interest and appreciate the ministry’s vision of maximizing the potential of education in the country,” Syakalima said.

He called on all school administrators to embrace the changes as they are meant to positively impact education in the country.
