Roan MP, Chibuye, lends voice to debt crisis, cautions against contracting more loans

Roan Independent lawmaker, Joel Chibuye, says President Hakainde Hichilema should directly engage the Chinese government on debt restructuring.

Chibuye also urged the United Party for National Development (UPND) not to accumulate more debts.

Chibuye said this during a Millennium Radio talk show on Tuesday night.

He counseled that the government needed to approach China for debt restructuring.

China is easy to deal with, we worked with them to build the the Tanzania Zambia Railways (TAZARA ) and many projects, I am confident if approached we will get the desired results,” the Roan lawmaker stated.

Chibuye said there was need to ensure that the country achieved the much needed debt restructuring for the country.

He also said the government should cautiously handle the issue of debt contraction to avoid previous mistakes.

The government should avoid taking the country into another debt trap, we should learn lessons from the past,” Chibuye said.

He added the increase in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was helping in bridging the infrastructure gap in constituencies.

Chibuye urged youths to take advantage of the the CDF skill development fund to get skills that could help them create or get jobs .
