Ruling party, UPND, says country now choice destination for Foreign Direct Investment

The United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Batuke Imenda says the government will continue to promote trade and investment as it is the hallmark of the party’s economic policy.

Imenda explained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Zambian High Commission in South Africa that the party’s economic policy was aimed at transforming Zambia.

He said Zambia under the UPND Government had become a destination of choice for Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) because of the condusive business environment.

Imenda said this during a side meeting with Zambia’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa Inonge Mwenya.

“Trade and investment play an important role in the promotion of economic development and that Government wants to promote trade and investment and that mantaining sound bilateral relations with other countries is key in maintaining the economic transformation momentum alive,” he said.

Imenda is leading the UPND delegation at the 55th African National Conference (ANC) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

All Diplomatic Corps accredited to South Africa and different stakeholders were also invited to witness the opening of the Conference.

“We have come to show solidarity to the ruling ANC’s conference as a ruling party, together with other ruling political parties in the region. The idea is for us to learn from each other’s experiences and exchange ideas on intra-party democracy, among other issues,” Imenda said.

And Mwenya reiterated the Mission’s commitment to playing its part in ensuring enhanced ties between Zambia and South Africa across various sectors in line with Government’s agenda on actualising economic diplomacy.
