Over 10 million cyber-attacks were recorded in Zambia in 2022 on various social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, among others.

In order to counter the increase in cyber-attacks, which are happening on a daily basis, government says there is need to invest in cyber security infrastructure in the country.

Technology and Science Minister, Felix Mutati, said currently Zambia stands at number 99 out of the 187 countries where cyber-crimes are high and this is worrisome on the part of government.

Officiating at the launch of the Liquid Intelligence Technologies World Class Cyber Security Operation Fusion Center in Lusaka on Wednesday, Mutati noted the need for collaboration between sector players operating in the cyber space.

“I think there is need to think on how do we expand competences and skills of our people to be able to be the fighter, the warriors in the cyber space, and perhaps broaden it to include government institutions because you can not be safe alone, we have to be safe together,” he said

Mutati has warned that government is ready to deal with cyber-crimes through the Zambia, Information and Communication Technology Authority.

Speaking earlier, Liquid Intelligence Technologies Chief Executive Officer, Mark Townsend, said the facility which is the company’s third Centre in Africa will enable the company to protect its clients from cyber-attacks and boost their online security.

“This marks Liquid’s third Cyber Security Fusion Centre in Africa, providing Zambian businesses with timely responses to mitigate cyber-attacks and ensure they’re prepared to face current and future threats” he said.
