The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has formally warned Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Lusaka, Dr. Alick Banda, following investigations into his alleged unlawful possession of a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Addressing journalists in Lusaka on Monday, DEC Spokesperson Allan Tamba said that when given the opportunity to explain how he came into possession of the vehicle, Dr. Banda chose to remain silent.
According to Tamba, Dr. Banda is alleged to have had the Toyota Hilux, registration number ALF7734, in his possession between April 22, 2021, and December 2023. The vehicle is reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from ZRA, contrary to Section 319(a) of the Penal Code, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
“The public may wish to note that, when granted an opportunity to explain how he assumed possession of the said motor vehicle, Dr. Alick Banda chose to remain silent,” Tamba said.
He added that the Commission will update the public on the outcome of the investigation at an appropriate time.
