Electoral Commission of Zambia launches online voter pre-registration platform ahead of 2026 General Elections

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has unveiled an online voter pre-registration platform as part of its preparations for the 2026 General Elections.

The initiative is designed to make the registration process more accessible, efficient, and inclusive for all eligible citizens, according to ECZ Commissioner, McDonald Chipenzi, who announced the development during a Central Province briefing at Urban Bliss Hotel in Kabwe.

Chipenzi explained that the new system will enable eligible voters to initiate the registration process online before completing it in person at designated centers, where biometric and portrait capture will be conducted.

He said the Online Pre-Registration Portal will be open from September 15 to November 3, 2025, offering citizens a convenient way to begin the process before physically presenting themselves to registration officers.

“The physical voter registration exercise will run from October 13 to November 11 across all 156 constituencies, in line with the Commission’s constitutional mandate to register all eligible citizens,” Chipenzi stated.

He stressed that the success of the exercise would depend on collective effort, professionalism, and transparency among ECZ staff.

Chipenzi added that mass voter registration was about inclusion and accessibility, ensuring that no eligible citizen—whether in towns or remote areas—was left behind.

Meanwhile, Provincial Registration Officer (PRO), Clint Susiku, urged District Voter Education Committee (DVEC) Secretaries and Human Resource Coordinators to ensure effective implementation of the briefing’s objectives in their districts.

“As DVEC Secretaries, you must spearhead the allocation of voter education materials and resources in your districts,” Susiku said.

In his welcoming remarks, Kabwe District Registration Officer, Jovax Ngoma, emphasized the importance of producing a credible and accurate voters’ register at the end of the exercise.

Following mass registration, inspection of the provisional voters’ register will take place from February 17 to 23, 2026, with the final register expected to be certified by April 30, 2026.

The ECZ has since called on all stakeholders, including provincial and district electoral officers, voter education coordinators, and human resource coordinators, to diligently play their roles in safeguarding the integrity and credibility of Zambia’s electoral process.
