Police in Lusaka have launched investigations into a case of aggravated robbery following a report received on August 16, 2025 at 00:15 hours at Garden Police Post.
The report was made by Abhay Gujar, a 37-year-old Indian national residing in Olympia, Lusaka, according to a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday by Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha.
Gujar was attacked and robbed of $1,200, K2,000 and property valued at K 48, 759 by his former employee, Ezekiel Zimba, in the company of three unidentified accomplices armed with machetes and screwdrivers.
Brief facts of the matter are that on August 15, 2025, between 19:00 hours and 19:30 hours, the suspect Ezekiel Zimba entered the premises of his former employer where he found Gujar’s wife, Pooja Gujar, aged 32.
Zimba demanded to see Gujar, claiming he needed to collect his money. However, he was informed that it was late and he was asleep, advising him to return the following day and to phone him in the morning.
“Zimba then requested a piece of paper and a pen, claiming he needed to write down Mr. Gujar’s phone number, which he said he had lost,” Kaitisha said.
She explained that as Gujar entered the house, Zimba followed her inside, grabbed both her hands, and began harassing her and threatened to kill her if she did not produce her husband.
Kaitisha said at that moment, three unidentified men armed with machetes and screwdrivers forced their way into the house.
“The noise awoke Mr. Abhay Gujar, who rushed to the sitting room where he was immediately subdued by the assailants,” she said.
Kaitisha stated that Gujar was struck with a machete and dragged to the bedroom, where the attackers demanded money, threatening to kill him if he did not comply.
