Ex-Local Government Minister, Sejani, dies at 67. Here are a few things to remember about him

Former Minister of Local Government and Housing in the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD)-led government, Ackson Sejani, has died at the age of 67 years.

Sejani died at Netcare Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Monday, 28 July 2025.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, announced the death of Sejani in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday evening.

Here are key facts about Sejani:

1. Before his death, Sejani served as Chairperson for the Local Government Service Commission.

2. Sejani was a Member of Parliament for Mapatizya Constituency from 1991 to 2011 and served as Cabinet Minister from 1999 to 2001.

3. The late former Cabinet Minister also served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries from 1997 to 1999.

4. He was ccommended for his efforts to clean up the system, particularly for conducting a staff audit at Lusaka City Council to remove unqualified cadres and ghost workers.

The funeral is being held at Vorna Valley in Meanwood Ndeke, Chongwe District, and a detailed burial programme will be announced in due course.
