Brian Mundubile-led alliance Copperbelt Chairperson, and former Ndola Mayor  Amon Chisenga, and another official identified only as Zulu have been arrested and detained for allegedly holding an unlawful assembly.

Confirming the incident, Tonse Alliance Provincial Youth Secretary for Political/Media relations, Charles Kabwita said the two were picked up over the weekend after hosting political meetings in Ndola.

“The Tonse Alliance Copperbelt Province leadership regrets to inform members and the public that Chisenga and Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary, Zulu, have been arrested in Ndola,” Kabwita said in a statement issued in Kitwe on Monday.

He added that the arrests occurred shortly after a successful provincial meeting in which members unanimously endorsed Mundubile as the preferred presidential candidate — a move he said demonstrated strong unity and growing support across the Copperbelt.

He added that while the Alliance was concerned by the development, it remained committed to peaceful and lawful political participation.

“Members are urged to remain calm and resolute as the party continues advancing its democratic mission,” Kabwita said.
