Govt, Mundubile trade tackles over road contracts awarded 10 years ago

The Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned Brian Mundubile, the Mporokoso Member of Parliament, for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation into road construction contracts awarded between 2014 and 2020.

According to the Commission, a Warn and Caution statement has been recorded from Mundubile over the manner in which contracts for projects in the Northern, Eastern, Western and Central provinces were awarded to companies in which he is alleged to hold an interest. The total value of the contracts under review is estimated at more than K1.5 billion.

ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications Chilufya Chisanga said on Friday that the Commission could not release further details because investigations remained active.

She noted that disclosures would be made at an appropriate stage once the inquiry progresses.

Mundubile’s lawyer, George Chisanga, said the transactions in question had already undergone a forensic audit, which found no irregularities.

He argued that audit results confirmed that no payments were made for work not done and that all financial records aligned with work completed.

“The points being raised are not new and have already been addressed,” Chisanga said, adding that the audit found no discrepancies.

He questioned the timing of the investigation, pointing out that the contracts were several years old.

He insisted that Mundubile had nothing to hide and remained willing to cooperate with authorities but criticised what he described as a politically motivated process.

“The accounts have been subjected to forensic audit, and there’s no evidence of wrongdoing. We will continue to cooperate with the authorities, but we believe this investigation is politically driven,” he said.

The ACC has not indicated when the next stage of the inquiry will be undertaken as investigations continue.
