Copperbelt Minister, Elisha Matambo, has announced that President Hakainde Hichilema would undertake a one-day working visit to the Copperbelt Province on Sunday, February 22, 2026, with key engagements planned in Ndola and Kitwe.

Speaking during a media briefing in Ndola on Friday, Matambo said the President was expected to attend a church service at Chifubu Catholic Church before meeting students from various learning institutions in Kitwe later in the afternoon.

“Our Head of State is scheduled to join fellow Christians at Chifubu Catholic Church in Ndola and later in the afternoon engage with students from various learning institutions in Kitwe,” Matambo said.

He added that, having revamped key sectors of the economy, the Copperbelt had become a “second home” for the President.

“Additionally, Copperbelt has received a lion’s share in terms of development across all sectors,” he told journalists, while urging residents to continue supporting President Hichilema.

The upcoming student engagement has drawn strong interest from the National Council of Students, which says it looks forward to presenting issues affecting learners.

During a separate media briefing at Garden Court Hotel Kitwe, the Council’s Vice Chairperson Loyd Nsonga described the interaction as a rare opportunity for students to interface directly with the Head of State.

“This will be an opportunity to share your views on issues affecting the education sector and youth development,” Nsonga said.

He added that learners would be able to raise concerns covering “meal allowances, infrastructure development, employment prospects, and skills development, among other key matters affecting their academic journey and future aspirations.”

Nsonga urged all students across the Copperbelt to mobilise and participate, stressing that meaningful engagement was critical in shaping responsive youth policies.

“The meet-and-greet session, which is the first of its kind, is expected to draw students from various public and private institutions across the Copperbelt,” he noted.

He has since called on students to turn up in large numbers for the interaction with President Hichilema.
