The 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) has closed with record-breaking results, positioning itself as the most ambitious edition since the event’s inception.

According to the official report presented by Afreximbank’s Director of Trade Facilitation and Investment Promotion, Gainmore Zanamwe, the fair exceeded nearly all its targets, underscoring Africa’s growing momentum towards trade integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

A total of 20 Heads of State and Government attended—an unprecedented show of political will.

The exhibition floor hosted 2,148 exhibitors against a target of 2,000, along with 49 national pavilions and nine focus days, more than double the initial projection.

The fair also drew 132 countries and nearly 1,000 qualified buyers, far surpassing expectations of 75 countries and 750 buyers.

Participation levels reached new heights, with over 112,000 attendees, compared to the initial target of 35,000, largely driven by Algeria’s extensive mobilisation.

Trade and investment deals worth $48.3 billion were signed, exceeding the $44 billion target.

Algeria accounted for $11.4 billion, with an additional $11.6 billion in deals still in the pipeline.

Delivering closing remarks in his capacity as Chairman of the IATF2025 Advisory Council, Olusegun Obasanjo, hailed the 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2025) in Algiers as a resounding success, describing it as a powerful demonstration of Africa’s ability to drive prosperity through unity and shared vision.

Chief Obasanjo said the fair had gone beyond expectations, generating vibrant exchanges, partnerships, and trade deals that would strengthen the continent’s economic integration.

“This event has been more than just a trade fair; it has been a testament to our shared vision for a more integrated and prosperous Africa,” Obasanjo told delegates.

He stated that: “We have seen deals forged, partnerships strengthened, and the seeds of future prosperity sown.”

He extended gratitude to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his government for what he called “outstanding dedication, professionalism and tireless hard work” in hosting the week-long event.

He also praised the Algerian people, who turned out in large numbers to engage with African exhibitors and business leaders.

The former president highlighted the role of Afreximbank, the AfCFTA Secretariat and the African Union Commission as co-convenors, noting that their commitment had been visible throughout the exhibition halls and panel sessions.

He singled out Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah for his leadership in championing African trade and integration.

Obasanjo stressed that the outcomes of IATF2025 must not end with the event, urging delegates to build on the momentum created in Algiers.

“As we depart, let us carry the momentum of this gathering forward. Let us continue to build on the connections made, to explore new opportunities and to work together to realise the full potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area,” he said.

He also acknowledged the contributions of sponsors, exhibitors, buyers, industry leaders, and the organising teams, including Reed Exhibitions, Brand Communications, Redflag, and Inkanyezi, for delivering what he described as a “memorable experience.”

Reflecting on his July 2025 meeting with President Tebboune, Obasanjo said the Advisory Council had promised to work hand-in-hand with the Algerian government and other partners to deliver a successful event.

“Not only have we achieved that, but we have also surpassed our expectations and demonstrated the power of Africa when we work in unison towards a common goal. Long may that continue,” Obasanjo concluded.

The IATF2025, which attracted thousands of delegates, exhibitors, and buyers, is widely seen as a catalyst for advancing the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), unlocking intra-African trade opportunities, and showcasing the continent’s cultural and entrepreneurial diversity.
