Manchester United tighten grip on top 4 spot with 2-0 over Tottenham in Premier League

Manchester United have tightened their grip on a Premier League top-four spot with a 2-0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

United came into the clash looking to build on their recent upturn in form under interim boss Michael Carrick, while Tottenham, sitting 14th in the table, were searching for a breakthrough to end a winless league run.

The action burst into life early when Spurs captain Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card in the 29th minute for a reckless challenge on Casemiro.

According to the Guardian, with the numerical advantage, United pressed with purpose, and it was Bryan Mbeumo who broke the deadlock on 38 minutes from a well-worked corner routine that curled past Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham struggled to regain rhythm against a confident United side, with their limited chances kept in check by a disciplined Red Devils defence.

After controlling much of the second half, United sealed the victory in the 81st minute through Bruno Fernandes, who turned home from close range to wrap up a deserved win.

The victory was United’s fourth straight Premier League win under Carrick and extended their unbeaten league run to seven games.

Tottenham’s poor form continued, with manager Thomas Frank’s side failing to make a significant impact and remaining stuck mid-table.
