Two members of the same family died from electrocution and another was injured in an incident in Kabanana Site and Service, Lusaka, on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Police Spokesperson, Godfrey Chilabi, confirmed the deaths in a statement issued in Lusaka on Monday, saying preliminary investigations showed that Priscilla Mwansa, 44, was electrocuted while hanging clothes on a laundry wire which had come into contact with electrically charged iron sheets on the roof.

Her daughters, Roma Banda, 24, and 10-year-old Faith Banda, rushed to assist her.

“During the incident, the drying wire snapped, causing all three to fall to the ground,” Chilabi said.

Priscilla and Faith died instantly, while Roma sustained burns on her hand and is receiving treatment at Chipata Level One Hospital.

Chilabi said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination. ZESCO personnel were later notified and attended to the scene.

Police have opened an inquiry file into the matter.
