The Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) has issued an alert warning communities in Kanchibiya, Chinsali and Kasama Districts of Muchinga and Northern Provinces to prepare for possible flooding as major rivers continue to rise.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, WARMA Senior Public Relations Officer and Communications Officer, Simaati Kalaluka, said residents in the affected regions should remain vigilant and take urgent steps to safeguard their lives and property.
Kalaluka said the Chambeshi River in Kanchibiya District is expected to overflow between February 14 and 20, 2026, posing a risk to villages situated near the Mpika–Kasama Road Bridge.
He added that the Lubu River in Chinsali District is projected to reach peak flooding levels on February 11, 2026, affecting communities in Mbao, Kalwela, Mweye and surrounding areas near Lubwa Mission along the riverbanks.

In Kasama District, the Lukulu River will peak on February 14, 2026, threatening settlements in Kalyalya, Sausande and surrounding areas along the Kasama–Luwingu Road Bridge. The Kambwititi River is also expected to reach peak levels on the same day, impacting Mumbimfumu, Chokolokoso and nearby communities.
“WARMA officers are already on the ground monitoring the situation and working closely with other stakeholders to respond promptly,” Kalaluka said.
He advised residents to move to higher ground, avoid riverbanks and take necessary measures to secure property.
Kalaluka assured that the Authority would continue to closely track water levels and issue updates as conditions evolve.
“Residents are urged to take this alert seriously and act immediately to protect lives and property,” he said.
