Nalumango: Africa needs visionary leadership for economic transformation

Vice President Mutale Nalumango has highlighted the need for Africa to have visionary, inclusive, and accountable leadership at all levels in order to achieve the desired economic transformation in the individual countries on the continent.

Nalumango emphasized that Africa was no longer a dark continent but fully enlightened in every sphere in terms of its transformation agenda.

Speaking during the Lead Africa Summit at Urban Hotel in Lusaka on Wednesday, Nalumango noted that the only thing that had made Africa not to see the light was its failure to utilise economic potential for development as compared to other continents.

She noted that Africa had missed a lot of opportunities to accelerate development and failed to place the Christian faith at the core of the transformation agenda.

“We are greatly endowed in many ways with a lot of plans and strategies that can be actualized for upright development.

“We have, unfortunately, in most times, failed to actualize these plans and strategies due to inadequate self drive,” Nalumango said.

She stressed the need for African countries to ensure that economic transformation was for the people, a fundamental human right, and an obligation that every government should focus on.

Nalumango said Africa was in an era of transformation, and that the continent could not continue to remain behind in its quest for development.

“Economic transformation is, therefore, not an optional anymore for Africa’s development, but a cornerstone to economic emancipation. Economic transformation and prosperity are master keys for development,” she emphasized.

Nalumango added that Christian leaders on the continent had every right to build the necessary strategies and skills to make this a reality, especially since there was a great deal at stake for the continent.

She said this was why African Christian leaders needed to come together to establish ways and means to address Africa’s quest for transformation.
