Police in Northern Province have intensified patrols following growing public concern over increased crime and disorderly behaviour in some parts of Kasama.

Recent reports indicate a surge in serious crimes such as murder and aggravated robbery, sparking anxiety among residents.

“We wish to assure the general public that the police are fully aware of these concerns and have intensified efforts to restore peace and security in all affected areas,” Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Lucky Munkhondya said in a statement on Monday.

Munkhondya warned that security operatives would not allow lawlessness or criminal elements to take over communities.

“In response to the recent incidents and reports shared by residents, police have intensified both foot and motorised patrols in the central business district, residential areas, and identified hotspots, especially after 18:00 hours. Special operations are underway to identify and arrest all individuals involved in violent crimes, drug-related activities, and other unlawful conduct,” she said.

She added that the service was working closely with community leaders, business owners, and residents to strengthen neighbourhood watch efforts.

Munkhondya urged the public to promptly report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station or through emergency lines.

“The police advise all taxi drivers to exercise caution, particularly during late hours, and avoid picking more than two male passengers at a time, especially at odd hours,” she said.

She further warned that the police would not tolerate acts of vandalism, harassment, violence, or public disorder, adding that any group attempting to disturb public peace would be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
