A Chingola businessman, Maposa Nkhuwa, 44, has reportedly taken his life at his residence in Chingola’s Central Township, police have confirmed.

Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner, Mwala Yuyi, said in a statement on Saturday that Nkhuwa, who owned Old Spring Mining Company, allegedly shot himself in the head with a Glock pistol at around 06:30 hours on February 28, 2026.

Nkhuwa’s driver, Maurice Mwansa, reported the incident after hearing a gunshot and finding his employer dead on the ground with a gun still in his hand.

“The police visited the scene and found the body of the deceased lying on the ground just behind his house with a gun in his right hand,” Yuyi said.

He added that police had recovered the firearm and were continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown.

“The body has been taken to Nchanga South General Hospital Mortuary for further examination,” he said.

Nkhuwa was the son of former Chingola Member of Parliament and former Energy Minister, Mathews Nkhuwa.
