Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) president, Kelvin Bwalya Fube, and National Congress Party president, Pastor Peter Chanda, have reportedly reconciled and vowed to promote peace and unity within the Tonse Alliance.

In a joint statement issued in Lusaka on Friday, the two leaders said they had convened to reaffirm their commitment to the Alliance’s core values and founding principles.

“This strategic engagement comes at a time when our nation reflects on the enduring legacy of the late Sixth Republican President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, whose leadership and dedication to national unity and democratic governance continue to inspire our collective path forward,” the statement read.

The leaders called on all Tonse Alliance members and partners to uphold the principles of unity, peace, and selfless service, emphasizing that the coalition was formed to provide a strong, people-centered alternative leadership focused on national interest and transformation—not individual ambitions.

They further urged those pursuing personal or divisive agenda to set them aside and refocus on the broader mission of delivering on promises to the Zambian people and building a stronger, more equitable nation.

“As we consolidate the Tonse Alliance agenda and strengthen our partnerships, we do so with humility, clarity, and determination, ensuring that the ideals of unity, integrity, and progress are preserved in honour of our late Republican President,” the statement added.

Bwalya and Chanda stressed the importance of moving forward together, not as fragmented voices, but as a united front committed to Zambia’s future.

The joint declaration comes in the wake of a recent statement attributed to Bwalya, in which he reportedly questioned whether Patriotic Front (PF) acting president, Given Lubinda, should have assumed the acting leadership position.
