The Tonse Alliance Council of Leaders says it has resolved that the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) will serve as the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the August 2026 General Elections.
Alliance leader, Brian Mundubile, reportedly convened a virtual Council of Leaders meeting on March 2, 2026, to deliberate on organisational, electoral, and strategic matters ahead of the August 2026 General Elections.
Presenting the resolutions on Tuesday, Dr. Chris Zimba, the Tonse Alliance Secretary General, said that as a precautionary measure, other interested member parties were invited to formally apply for consideration as contingency SPVs.
Zimba stated that any party seeking such consideration must be duly registered with the Registrar of Societies, be up to date with its 2026 annual returns, and submit certified copies—both hard and soft—of its constitution.
“Provide the latest list of office bearers as filed with the Registrar of Societies. Demonstrate willingness to make any necessary constitutional amendments to align with Alliance objectives,” he said.
He added that the party must also be ready to enter into a mutually agreed governance and operational framework with the Tonse Alliance leadership.
Zimba said this approach was intended to ensure legal preparedness, institutional stability, and uninterrupted participation in the electoral process.
To strengthen grassroots coordination, Zimba said the Alliance resolved to harmonise structures across all ten provinces using the existing Council of Leaders matrix model.
He said the BM8 and the ECL PF Movement would combine chairperson roles in Alliance structures at all levels, with each member organisation seconding representatives to ensure inclusive participation.
Zimba further announced that the Alliance had approved the opening of applications for Parliamentary, Mayoral, Council Chairperson, and Councillor positions from March 9 to March 31, 2026.

“The Alliance resolved to organise coordinated national visibility events in key provinces including Lusaka, Copperbelt, Central, Eastern, Luapula, Muchinga and Northern,” he said.
These engagement activities will include leadership interactions, public service initiatives, and the recognition of women and youth who have made significant contributions to national development.
Zimba also announced several appointments made by the Alliance President.
These include Melisian Phiri as National Women’s Affairs Chairlady, Japen Mwakalombe as National Elections and Campaign Chairman, and Binwell Mpundu as Presidential Affairs Chairman.
Others appointed are Abiud Kawanga as National Chairman for Scientific Technology and Communications, Alexander Chiteme as National Mobilisation Chairperson, and Stephen Kampyonho as Parliamentary Affairs Chairperson.
