The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested two women in separate operations in Lusaka and Kapiri Mposhi districts for trafficking in a total of 14.8 kilogrammes of cannabis.
DEC Public Relations Officer, Allan Tamba, said in a statement on Friday that in Lusaka, the Commission arrested Catherine Musonda, 41, for trafficking in 8.6 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis.
In a separate operation in Mutanuka area of Kapiri Mposhi District, Central Province, Rhoda Chifwaila, 52, was also arrested for trafficking in 6.2 kilogrammes of dry loose cannabis, he said.
“The said drugs have since been seized, while the suspects have been detained in lawful custody awaiting to appear before competent courts,” Tamba stated.
He further reminded the public that cannabis contained potent elements which, when abused, can cause serious mental disorders, memory and attention deficits, depression, and cardiovascular ailments.
Tamba urged members of the public to continue reporting drug trafficking activities to law enforcement agencies, saying collaborative efforts in crime prevention, detection, and prosecution can help create “resilient, healthier, and safer communities for all.”
