The Government of Zambia has issued a travel advisory to all Zambian nationals residing in or visiting the Gulf region, following ongoing security incidents in parts of the Middle East.
Zambians in the affected areas have been strongly urged to remain vigilant, stay indoors, and avoid all travel near military installations or key government infrastructure.
In a statement issued in Lusaka on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation advised Zambians to maintain regular contact with the nearest Zambian diplomatic mission for registration and assistance.
The Ministry further urged citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to affected areas until the situation stabilises and official advisories confirm it is safe to do so.
“Upon hearing a siren or receiving a Home Front Command alert, all citizens must immediately enter designated Protected Space (shelter, or reinforced room),” reads the statement.
The government emphasized that Zambians in such areas must remain in the protected space for the duration of the alert and should not attempt to leave or move between buildings until the threat has passed.
It stressed the need to strictly follow real-time instructions and alerts issued by local authorities, and to ensure that their travel documents—and those of family members—are valid and kept in a secure, accessible location.
Additionally, the advisory noted temporary partial closures of airspace, warning Zambians in affected countries not to travel to airports unless they have confirmed with their airline that their flight is operational.
“Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Zambian Missions accredited to countries in the Gulf region, is maintaining constant engagement with relevant authorities to obtain timely and accurate updates on the evolving situation,” the statement reads.
The government assured that it was closely monitoring developments and would issue further guidance, including on possible evacuation procedures, should the security situation deteriorate.
