Musonda urges PF leaders to seek alternative political platform ahead of 2026 elections

Political and social commentator, Dr James Musonda, has advised leaders of the Patriotic Front (PF) to consider finding an alternative political platform for their political survival as the general election approaches.

Musonda said continued internal disputes had weakened the former ruling party, making it increasingly difficult for it to function as a viable political force.

Since 2023, when Miles Sampa held a convention that some commentators described as a “political coup” due to the lack of endorsement from the party hierarchy, divisions within the PF have deepened.

The dispute over party leadership has persisted, with Mafinga Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga also claiming authority over key decision-making processes.

Speaking in Kitwe on Saturday, Musonda said PF leaders were clinging to a party that had lost its political relevance instead of exploring other political options.

He argued that it was often difficult for individuals to let go of something they strongly believed in, but said the PF had reached a point where its leaders needed to accept reality.

Musonda further claimed that the PF’s decline began after the death of Zambia’s fifth President, Michael Sata.

He alleged that the party was merely sustained for some time under former president Edgar Lungu before being further weakened by leadership disputes involving Miles Sampa, adding that the current fragmentation within the PF was, therefore, not surprising.
