Martin Ødegaard scored a stunning opener as Arsenal claimed a 2-1 Premier League victory over Brighton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners went ahead in the 14th minute when Ødegaard curled a precise left-footed strike into the bottom corner from outside the box after being set up by Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal dominated much of the first half, creating a series of chances through Saka, Leandro Trossard and Viktor Gyökeres, but were unable to extend their lead before the break.

Their advantage was doubled early in the second half when Brighton defender Georginio Rutter inadvertently turned the ball into his own net while attempting to clear, handing Arsenal a two-goal cushion.

Brighton responded with renewed urgency and pulled a goal back in the 64th minute when Diego Gómez fired into the top corner after sustained pressure, having moments earlier seen Yasin Ayari strike the post.

The visitors continued to push for an equaliser, forcing Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya into key saves, while Arsenal threatened on the counter through Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Despite a tense finish and five minutes of stoppage time, Mikel Arteta’s side held firm to secure all three points and extend their positive home form.
