What looked like a straightforward three-point stroll for Liverpool turned into a nail-biting affair, as 19th‑placed Burnley snatched a 1–1 draw at Anfield on Saturday, leaving fans’ hopes hanging in the balance.
The result denied the Reds full points at home and marked another frustrating afternoon in their bid for consistency this season.
Liverpool, positioned 5th in the Premier League table, controlled much of the first half with attacking intent and pressure, while Burnley, languishing 19th and fighting to climb clear of the relegation zone, defended with organisation and belief.
The hosts broke the deadlock just before half‑time when Florian Wirtz drilled a composed finish into the net after good build‑up play, giving Liverpool a deserved 1–0 lead as the teams headed into the break.
According to the Guardian, Burnley responded strongly after the interval, refusing to sit back.
Their persistence paid off in the 65th minute, when Marcus Edwards calmly slotted home after breaking into the box to level the score and energise the away support.
Liverpool thought they might regain control late on, but a missed penalty by Dominik Szoboszlai, whose effort struck the woodwork, proved costly as the hosts failed to convert their dominance into a winning edge.
The draw extends Liverpool’s current sequence without a win in the Premier League and adds to a run of frustrating results at Anfield where clear chances have often gone begging.
Burnley, for their part, will take encouragement from earning a point on the road against a higher‑placed opponent, underlining their resilience in a battle near the bottom of the table.
