Man City drop crucial points as Forest fight back twice

0

Manchester City were held to a dramatic 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium, with the visitors coming from behind twice to claim a valuable Premier League point and dent City’s title ambitions.

Pep Guardiola’s side entered the match second in the Premier League table, chasing leaders Arsenal and needing a victory to keep pressure on the Gunners, while Nottingham Forest arrived battling near the relegation zone.

City dominated possession early and controlled much of the first half, probing Forest’s defence with quick passing and attacking movement as the home crowd expected another strong performance.

The breakthrough arrived in the 31st minute when Antoine Semenyo volleyed City into the lead, finishing a well-worked move to give the hosts the advantage before the interval.

In a match reported by Sky Sports, Forest responded after the restart and stunned the Etihad when Morgan Gibbs-White produced a superb equaliser in the 56th minute.

City regained control shortly after when Rodri headed home in the 62nd minute, restoring the champions’ lead and appearing to put Guardiola’s side back on course for all three points.

However, Forest refused to fade and continued to press forward, with their persistence rewarded in the 76th minute when Elliot Anderson curled in a brilliant strike to level the match once again.

City pushed hard in the closing stages and even appealed for a penalty after Erling Haaland appeared to be clipped in the box, but the referee waved play on and VAR did not intervene as frustration grew among the home players.
