Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has been conferred with an honorary Doctorate degree by Copperbelt University (CBU), marking his sixth such award.

Hichilema previously received honorary doctorates from Ghana’s Seventh-day Adventist University, the United Kingdom University, Mulungushi University, the University of Zambia, and ZICAS University.

CBU Deputy Vice Chancellor, Paul Chisale, cited President Hichilema’s efforts in developing and reopening mining projects, including the Kalengwa Mine in North-Western Province, and other emerging ventures as key reasons for the award.

“These initiatives have expanded Zambia’s mining footprint and strengthened its position as a global mining hub,” Chisale said.

He also highlighted the administration’s investments in critical transport and logistics systems as contributing to national development.

Accepting the award, Hichilema said he was humbled and saw it as recognition of the government’s reforms.

“I am deeply humbled by the honour bestowed on me. This means that the reforms the government embarked on since taking over are being acknowledged,” he said.

Hichilema called on Zambians to embrace changes aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability, achieving debt sustainability, and resolving the country’s power supply challenges, noting that these were significant achievements for his administration.
