Morocco assists US in major narco-terrorism and arms trafficking cases

The U.S. justice system highlights the “determining” role of Moroccan services in two separate cases related to arms trafficking and drug trafficking. Operations carried out in coordination with several countries and which led to arrests and extraditions to the United States.

Increasingly present in large-scale international operations, the DGSN-DGST cluster is increasingly asserting itself as a key player in the fight against transnational crime. Two statements issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia provide a new demonstration, highlighting the “determining” role of Moroccan services.

Thus, and in a first case, the American authorities detail a joint operation that allowed the dismantling of an international arms trafficking network. This coordinated action, carried out with the support of several partner services, resulted in the simultaneous arrest of several suspects in Spain, Ghana and Morocco.

Among them is a Kenyan national, arrested in Morocco as part of this operation, before being extradited to the United States on March 11, 2026. The network also included a Bulgarian arms trafficker, arrested in Spain, as well as a Tanzanian national apprehended in Ghana.

According to the information communicated by the American justice, this structured organization was involved in the illegal supply of weapons, in a transnational scheme based on relays spread over several continents. In this system, the intervention of the Moroccan services was considered decisive, in particular in the identification, location and arrest of one of the main protagonists.

A second case, also revealed by the US authorities, involves a Lebanese national presented as a member of a criminal network involved in transfer of funds in connection with drug trafficking.

The incident dates back to August 2024, as part of a controlled delivery operation conducted in coordination with the services of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This operation aimed to monitor and document financial flows from drug trafficking, in a logic of dismantling money laundering circuits with an international dimension.

Here again, the role of the DGSN-DGST division is explicitly underlined in the US press release, which highlights the contribution of Moroccan services in the conduct of the investigation and the success of the operation.

These two issues once again enshrine the role of Morocco as a central player in international security cooperation. Through intelligence sharing, operational support and coordination with its partners, the Kingdom is a lastingly interlocutor in the fight against networks associated with arms trafficking, drug trafficking and financial crime. They also confirm the strength of the security partnership between Morocco and the United States, based on close cooperation and strategic convergence in the face of increasingly complex and globalized threats.
