Sunderland boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, condemning the visitors to another setback and leaving them stuck in the relegation zone.
It was a disappointing start for new Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi, whose first game in charge ended in defeat at the Stadium of Light.
According to The Independent, De Zerbi recently replaced Igor Tudor, with Tottenham already under pressure after slipping into the Premier League’s bottom three following West Ham United’s win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

An open first half saw both sides create chances. Spurs had a penalty decision overturned in the 21st minute, while Brian Brobbey, Richarlison and Dominic Solanke all went close.
The decisive moment came 11 minutes into the second half when Nordi Mukiele struck, his effort taking a deflection before finding the net to give Sunderland the lead.
The goal proved enough for Regis Le Bris’ side, who secured back-to-back league victories.
The defeat leaves Tottenham two points adrift in the drop zone with six matches remaining and still searching for their first Premier League win of 2026.
