First Lady, Mutinta Hichilema’s outfit at President Hakainde Hichilema’s inauguration has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Zambians praising her fashion sense and appearance.

Shortly after photographs of the First Lady in her inauguration outfit were shared online as she left the Community House for Heroes stadium, social media users flooded the post with comments, describing her as elegant, classy and stylish.

One commenter, Clement Mayani, wrote: “This woman knows fashion, very clean and quiet, no drama at all…”

Fanny Lubaba described Mrs Hichilema as “our beautiful and classy mother of the nation”, adding that she “never disappoints when it comes to fashion.”

Another user, Mubanga Beene Kapambwe, said: “Her fashion sense is definitely 100. She does represent us well.”

Memory Chibulambukowa echoed the sentiment, writing: “Exactly 100. I was waiting for your post, indeed she never disappoints.”

Other users also praised the First Lady’s appearance, with comments including “She doesn’t disappoint our 1st lady. Very beautiful,” “I love her sense of fashion,” “She’s stunning,” and “Gorgeous.”

Some of the reactions were more playful, with commenters turning their attention to the First Gentleman’s appearance.

Merry Tembo joked: “Our bally same na boyfriend wandi very stubborn when it comes to dressing,” while Bana Lupiya commented, “Ati another five years for the shoe,” accompanied by laughing emojis.

Mus Ondo observed: “He is carrying the handbag,” while another commenter joked that she would “buy pointed shoes for him by force.”

The comments also highlighted the wider public interest in the fashion choices of political leaders and their spouses during major national occasions.

Modester Lulu described the couple as “presidential figures,” while Lovenness Zia called Mrs Hichilema “the only Tonga woman with a good fashion sense.”

The reactions reflected a largely positive response, with many users focusing on the First Lady’s appearance while others used humour to comment on the couple’s coordinated public image.

Mutinta has served as First Lady since her husband assumed office in August 2021.

For many of the social media users, however, the inauguration was not only a political occasion but also an opportunity to scrutinise and celebrate the fashion choices on display.
