Kitwe City Council says it has impounded 101 vehicles since Aug. 28 for offences including operating unauthorised taxis, illegal loading and unloading, littering from moving vehicles and improper parking, the local authority said.
Council Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Lupikisha, said enforcement had been intensified against motorists and vehicle operators involved in road-related offences and other public nuisances across the district.
“I can confirm that a total of 101 vehicles have so far been impounded from August 28, 2026 to date, with operators warned and charged for offences including operating unauthorised taxis, throwing litter from moving vehicles, illegal loading and unloading, wrong parking and other public nuisances,” Lupikisha said in a statement on Thursday.
He said the enforcement was being conducted in accordance with Statutory Instrument No. 12 of 2018 under the Local Government Act.

Lupikisha said a significant number of offenders were apprehended at MTN along Zambia Way, ZIBSIP along Kantanta Street, Total Filling Station opposite United Church of Zambia and Micmar along Independence Road.
He said the areas had increasingly been used by motorists and commuters as informal bus stops despite not being designated bus stations or approved bus stops.
The council urged motorists, public transport operators and members of the public to comply with the law and use only designated bus stations and approved bus stops.
The enforcement comes as the council steps up measures to address traffic-related offences and public nuisances across Kitwe.
