Chipolopolo beat Togo 2-0 to revive 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign

The Zambia National Team, the Chipolopolo, have bounced back in style in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after defeating Togo 2-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Tuesday evening.

After suffering a 3-1 defeat to Algeria in their opening Group I fixture, Zambia returned home determined to collect maximum points and delivered in front of the home supporters.

Albert Kangwanda gave Zambia an early breakthrough, scoring in the 2nd minute to put the Chipolopolo ahead.

The Chipolopolo were gripped with injuries as in the 53rd minute, Miguel Chaiwa was withdrawn due and replaced by Owen Tembo while Zambia was still leading 1-0.

In the 62nd minute, another injury-induced substitution for Zambia saw David Simukonda stretchered off for Lameck Banda.

Zambia held on to their advantage before Eliya Mandanji added a second goal deep into stoppage time, sealing a crucial 2-0 victory.

The result gives Zambia an important boost in Group I as the team continues its campaign for qualification to the 2027 AFCON finals.

The Chipolopolo’s next qualifier is scheduled for November, with Zambia set to face Burundi at home before travelling for the return fixture.
