Lusaka Archbishop, Alick Banda, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday ahead of his trial, which is scheduled to begin on November 3, 2026.
Archbishop Banda, accompanied by fellow Catholic priests, appeared before Magistrate Mwandu Nakazwe for mention, where the State confirmed the trial date.
The 62-year-old cleric is charged with being in possession of a motor vehicle reasonably suspected to have been stolen, a charge he denies.
It is alleged that between April 22, 2021, and December 27, 2023, on dates unknown, Banda was found in possession of a blue Toyota Hilux, registration number ALF 7734, reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).

The archbishop spent a night at Lusaka Correctional Facility, commonly known as Chimbokaila, before being released on September 29, 2026.
The case is scheduled to proceed to trial on November 3.
