Catholic Archbishop of Lusaka Diocese Dr. Alick Banda has called on Zambians to reject the current drive to politicise the ethnic identities constituting the country aimed at establishing a hegemony inimical to unity of purpose.

In his homily message on the Catholic Feast of the Holy Archangels, Patron Saints and Defenders of the country on Monday in Lusaka, Banda called for an end of the current divisive politics that have beleaguered the country.

He said Zambians should live true to the ideals and spirit of unity of purpose that the country’s founding fathers and mothers had built the country on— “One Zambia, One Nation,” for which it was renowned for internationally.

Banda also urged the Clergy and Zambians to pray for spirit of dialogue and constructive engagements in national issues affecting the country.

“That the current drive to politicise our ethinic identities comstituting our nation and the Republic aimed at establishing a hegemony inimical to our unity of purpose will be resisted by every citizen of good conscience and will. We call to an end the current divisive politics that have bealeguered our nation,” he said.

Banda, through a pastoral letter, prayed to God to collectively and severally grant Zambians wisdom and grace of unity of purpose to listen to the cry of the poor and marginalised in the country.

“On this score, I therefore, in good conscious, wish to urge you all and ask you find time in your communities and parishes to pray for our country Zambia, through the intercession of the Archangels, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, the messengers and defenders of the nation of Zambia,’ he said.

Banda quoted the Bible saying: “as the Bible in the book of Revelation, tells us, Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have salvation and power come, and the Kingdom of our God and the authority of his annointed. For the accuser of our brothers is cast out, who accuses them before our God day and night. They conquered him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony, love for life did not deter them from death. Therefor rejoice, you heaves, and you who dwell in them.”
