National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) Presidential Affairs Chairperson, Binwell Mpundu, has recounted his days in Parliament, accusing the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) of promoting lawlessness and political violence in the country.
Mpundu made the remarks in a Facebook Live update on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday’s general elections, saying that during his time in Parliament, he remained committed to his beliefs despite the consequences.
His statement comes less than 24 hours after the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) revoked his accreditation to access the National Results Centre.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Brown Kasaro, said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety and security following the circulation of a video attributed to Mpundu on social media.
In the video, Mpundu declared that he was ready to “kill or be killed” during the election period.
Speaking ahead of the polls, Mpundu urged Zambians not to be swayed by campaign materials, saying the future of the country was in the hands of voters.
“As we go to the polls tomorrow, there is a need for the electorates to be reminded that the future is in their hands, they should not be excited about a T-shirt. During my days in parliament, I held on to what I believe in, I would have swapped camps to get benefits,” he stated.

Mpundu said Zambians had the ability to determine the course of the country, while accusing the UPND of championing political violence.
He maintained that he had accomplished his responsibility of speaking on behalf of the downtrodden in society who, he said, had been affected by laws that trample on citizens’ rights.
“I feel accomplished, I do not care about what will follow next because I have done my part. If I wanted an easy way like others, I would have been bought and live a comfortable life,” Mpundu said.
He said Brian Mundubile was well suited to lead the country under the current circumstances and to reset the country.
Mpundu also disputed the ruling party’s claims about debt accumulation and violence under the Patriotic Front (PF), arguing that the UPND had borrowed more and presided over more violence.
“The UPND has in fact borrowed more than the PF and have done more violence from the period of the by election in Mapatisya where the name Mapatisya formula emanated, Zambians should redeem themselves,” he said.
