Brighton let two-goal lead slip as Spurs snatch late 2-2 draw at Amex

Brighton raced out to a 2-0 lead inside the opening half-hour but conceded late in each half and were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Amex Stadium on Saturday.

It was an end-to-end contest — the kind that could have easily finished 4-4 — perfectly illustrated by Brighton’s opener in the 8th minute.

In a match reported by NBC Sports, Georginio Rutter shrugged off his defender deep in his own half before releasing Yankuba Minteh with a perfectly weighted through ball.

The winger rounded goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and slotted home with composure.

Yasin Ayari then doubled the lead in the 31st minute with a stunning strike from the edge of Spurs’ penalty area.

Tottenham pulled one back just before halftime when Mohammed Kudus’ shot deflected off Richarlison, who reacted quickly to finish from close range.

The visitors pressed for an equalizer and eventually got their reward in the 82nd minute when Kudus whipped a dangerous ball into the box, which Jan Paul van Hecke inadvertently turned into his own net.
