Business woman in court for alleged child stealing

A business woman of Lusaka’s John Howard compound accused of stealing a child is to appear at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for the offence of child stealing.

Jane Suzyo Banda, 29, is alleged to have stolen Josephine Kayombo’s child on December 8, 2023.

The accused is facing a charge of child stealing contrary to Section 171(1) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.

According to a police statement, the child was retrieved on December 14, 2023, after a tip from member of the public who had seen the victim with an unknown girl in Chelstone Police camp.

The 19-year-old girl told Police that on December 9, Banda who sold dry fish within the camp had left the child under her care as she conducted her business and only returned after three and picked the child.

The police apprehended Banda on December 13, and the next day she led the officers to her house where the child was retrieved.
